Galaxy Express 999 and Captain Harlock Creator Leiji Matsumoto Hospitalized

There are multiple reports surfacing that legendary manga creator Leiji Matsumoto (Galaxy Express 999, Captain Harlock) has been hospitalized.

Matsumoto had been attending a media event in Turin, Italy, as part of their 40th anniversary tour celebrating the anime adaptation for Captain Harlock.

Reportedly, Matsumoto was conscious and talking at the event, with attendees later noting his speech became slurred and incoherent, so his staff take him back to the hotel to rest.

They later called an ambulance and rushed him to the hospital, where he was admitted with suspected stroke. Matsumoto is still listed as in critical condition, and there haven’t been updates since.

Matsumoto is 82 years old, and has been active for most of his life. Please send your best wishes to Matsumoto as we await hopeful news that he has recovered. We’ll keep you posted.
