The official Japanese Pokemon YouTube channel has released the first episode of the brand-new Pokemon anime “Birth of Pikachu” for all to see.

While it is in Japanese, the plot is still fairly decipherable. It focuses on Ash’s Pikachu as a baby (a Pichu) and its adventure with a wild Kangaskhan. A young Ash is also shown to have missed Prof. Oak’s Pokemon Camp, while new character Go has a chance encounter with the mythical Mew.

The episode first broadcast on November 17th on TV Tokyo, with the episode being uploaded to YouTube a few hours later. In addition, the anime’s opening “1 ・ 2 ・ 3” by After the Rain (Soraru x Mafumafu) was uploaded to the band’s official YouTube channel.

You can find the run-down on the episode below:

“In a forest somewhere in Kanto, there once was a lonely Pichu. This Pichu – who was still quite young – had a certain encounter and farewell. This took place shortly before Ash and his partner Pikachu started traveling together. This is the beginning of the anime “Pocket Monster.” “
