Amazon Studios is Working on a Live-Action Hellsing Movie

Hellsing

Amazon Studios is working on a live-action film based on Kouta Hirano’s manga series Hellsing.

The upcoming live-action film as reported by Deadline will also involve John Wick screenwriter Derek Kolstad. Other than that, not much is known about the upcoming film, particularly what parts of the Hellsing story it aims to tell.

Hellsing began as a manga series in 1997 by Kouta Hirano and tells the story of the vampire Alucard. Alucard is indentured as an enforcer for the Hellsing agency which handles supernatural threats on behalf of the British government.

An anime series for Hellsing was created in 2001 and was followed by a series of OVAs that ran from 2006 to 2012. The manga series was concluded after its 10th volume in 2008.

A summary of the series from Dark Horse can be found below.

“There’s a secret organization somewhere in England created to defend the Queen and country from monsters of all sorts. Yes, it’s hard to believe in this day and age….but really, isn’t this the true age of monsters? Enter Hellsing, an agency, long in tooth, with the experience, know-how, and…er…equipment to handle the problems that arise when vampires, ghouls take on these dark forces. “What equipment?” you may say. How about another vampire, and a big pistol loaded with special silver bullets? That oughta do the trick.”
