Funimation Gets New License for Robotech

Funimation and Kew Media have announced a new licensing deal for the iconic anime Robotech.

The new deal brings the entire original anime with all original 85 episodes to Funimation, as well as the sequel films Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles and Robotech 2: The Sentinels.

All three are seen as the ”Americanized versions” of the Macross mecha anime universe ever since their release in 1985.

There has been a lot of discussion as well over the years, regarding the similarities with the Macross anime universe and people have speculated for a long time if they’re related.

The show has been met with heated debates for almost as long as ‘who’s the best waifu’ in the Evangelion series. With Robotech, for 20+ years the question ”is Robotech part of Macross?” has been debated for a long time.

I thought Harmony Gold owned the rights to Robotech. Reading the article it reads like Harmony Gold has finally lost their rights to it… which could possibly mean Macross could be officially released in the West.
