New Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Spin-off Manga Announced

A new spin-off of the popular manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has been officially confirmed in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.

We reported previously that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba ended earlier this month. However the movie Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is still slated to come out this October, and now a new spin-off series will continue the franchise.

The new series titled Kimetsu no Yaiba: Rengoku Gaiden (Demon Slayer: Rengoku Sidestory) will be handled by artist Ryouji Hirano, and will feature the character Kyojuro Rengoku. The character is also a major part of the aforementioned movie, based on the Mugen Train story arc in the manga series.

Kyojuro is one of the nine Hashira (Pillars) of the Demon Slayer Corps, meaning he is one of the nine strongest members. Along with exceptional swordsmanship, Kyujuro has also mastered the Breath of Flames Breath Style, further augmented his powerful blows.

Ryouji Hirano confirmed his involvement with the spin-off manga in a tweet, while congratulating original Demon Slayer creator Koyoharu Gotouge on the conclusion of his series.

“今週発売のジャンプで鬼滅の刃が最終回を迎えました。 それにあたりまして炎柱 煉獄杏寿郎の外伝の製作が決定しました!!大好きな作品にまた関われて本当に嬉しいです。 今年劇場映画にも登場する煉獄さんの魅力を更に伝えられるよう全力で頑張ります!よろしくお願い致します”

“[Demon Slayer] reached the final round with this week’s jump.

For this reason, the production of [Kyojuro Rengoku’s] Gaiden has been decided! ! I’m really happy to be involved in my favorite work again.
I will do my best to further convey the charm of [Rengoku] who appears in theatrical movie this year! Thank you [fire emojis]”
