The artist behind series such as Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha has been awarded the Japanese Medal of Honor with a purple ribbon; the purple ribbon commends those who have made considerable academic or artist achievements.

As reported by Mainichi, Rumiko Takahashi is the latest recipient of the Japanese Medal of Honor with a purple ribbon. Her body of work includes famous series such as Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, and her debut title Urusei Yatsura.

Japanese Medals of Honor are awarded twice yearly on the birthdays of Emperor Showa on April 29th and Emperor Meiji on November 3rd. The ribbons come in six colors, each one in recognition of a particular kind of service to the nation of Japan.
