Studio Colorido’s Nakitai Watashi wa Neko o Kaburu Film Announced, Premieres June 5th

Nakitai Watashi wa Neko o Kaburu

Studio Colorido have announced anime film Nakitai Watashi wa Neko o Kaburu (roughly “I Want To Cry Pretending to Be A Cat”).

The press release (via Anime News Network) explains the film is set in the city Tokoname, Aichi prefecture. Second-year junior highschool student Miyo “Muge” Sasaki has fallen for classmate Kento Hinode.

Despite following him every day, Kento does not notice her. Muge then stumbles upon a magical mask that can turn her into a cat. As a cat, Kento finally notices “Taro” (the name Muge has as a cat, though we suspect Kento names the cat). Muge has finally got closer to the one she loves, but she may eventually be unable to turn back into a human.

Staff confirmed so far include Junichi Sato, and Tomotaka Shibayama Co-Directing. Mari Okada is writing the script. As mentioned above, Studio Colorido is animating. They are also doing the Pokemon: Twilight Wings YouTube series.

Cast include Mirai Shida (Melissa Shield in My Hero Academia, and Arriety in Secret World of Arrietty) as Muge, while Natsuki Hanae (Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer, Jaco in Dragon Ball Super, Taichi Yagami in Digimon Adventure: tri, and 9S in NieR:Automata) as Kento.

As an aside, the phrase “Neko o Kaburu” in the title (or “Neko wo Kaburu”) literally means “wearing/putting on a cat” [1, 2]. It means when someone tries to act innocent, like wearing a cat costume. It is roughly akin to the western phrase “butter wouldn’t melt (in their mouth).”

Nakitai Watashi wa Neko o Kaburu premieres June 5th in Japanese cinemas.
