UPDATE: In a press release received via email, Yen Press confirms that volume 12 will be titled The Intuition of Haruhi Suzumiya and is scheduled to release in the west the same day as the Japanese version- November 25th. We have adjusted the release date in the original article accordingly.

Original Story:

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya returns, since the last light novel in the series was published over nine years ago.

Dengeki Online reported that Kadokawa would be publishing volume 12 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya later this year. Volume 11 of the series was published back in May 2011, making it over nine years since the last volume.

Originally a light novel series by Nagaru Tanigawa in 2003, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya has gone on to become a fully fledged multimedia franchise with manga, multiple anime series, and video games. The 2006 anime series brought the series into the mainstream among overseas fans and led to release of the 2010 The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.

The 2006 anime series starred Aya Hirano as Haruhi Suzumiya, Yuko Goto as Mikuru Asahina, and Chihara Minori as Yuki Nagato. The series was animated by Kyoto Animation who last year were the victims of a deadly arson attack.

The light novel series is licensed and published in the west by Yen Press. You can read a synopsis of the series from Yen Press below.

“Welcome Japan’s hottest property and the international phenomenon known as Haruhism! Meet Haruhi — a cute, determined girl, starting high school in a city where nothing exciting happens and absolutely no one understands her. Meet Kyon — the sarcastic guy who sits in front of Haruhi in homeroom and the only boy Haruhi has ever opened up to. His fate is now tied to hers. Meet the SOS Brigade — an after-school club organized by Haruhi with a mission to seek out the extraordinary. Oh, and their second mission? Keeping Haruhi happy…because even through she doesn’t know it, Haruhi has the power to destroy our universe…”

Volume 12 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya will be available in Japan November 25th. There is currently no official English release date.
