Yu Yu Hakusho is getting the Netflix live-action treatment

Yu Yu Hakusho

Netflix has announced that a live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho. The series was popularized in the United States thanks to Adult Swim and Toonami. The series follows a young delinquent who dies before his time and becomes embroiled in the high-stakes action and drama of the spiritual world.

While Netflix has a “spotty” track record with live-action adaptations of anime, there are some fundamental differences to keep in mind with this upcoming series.

Firstly, the series is being filmed by TOHO, the same Japanese studio famous for Godzilla. In a similar vein, one actor has been announced at the time of publishing, Takumi Kitamura as Yusuke Urameshi. So while Netflix may be producing the series, it looks like filming and the actual work might remain in Japan.

The upcoming Netflix production of Yu Yu Hakusho is expected to premiere in the Winter of 2023.
